Role Overview

The Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder position involves precise and timely assignment of clinical codes for patient care episodes by thoroughly analysing clinical documentation. This role requires application of ICD-10-AM/ACHI classification systems alongside Australian and State Coding Standards to ensure accurate classification.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign clinical codes accurately across diverse case mixes, ensuring correct sequencing of Australian ICD-10-AM codes and appropriate DRG assignments.
• Identify and resolve coding-related issues in consultation with coding standards and hospital guidelines; escalate complex cases to the Coding Manager when necessary.
• Collaborate with relevant staff to resolve coding challenges effectively.
• Engage in quality assurance activities related to data coding integrity and contribute actively to quality health data collection.
• Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient care through quality enhancements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management certifying classification as a Health Information Manager.
• Certificate IV in Clinical Classification or Diploma of Clinical Coding qualification to be recognised as a Clinical Coder.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Strong problem-solving skills with capacity to interpret ambiguous clinical documentation.
• Meticulous attention to detail and sustained focus during coding tasks.
• Capability to operate both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Proactive, innovative, and results-oriented approach.

Conditions of Appointment
