Role summary

This position is responsible for keeping assigned facilities clean, sanitary, and orderly while carrying out additional duties connected to the assigned area.

Core cleaning duties

Daily work includes high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, spot cleaning, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor dusting or vacuuming, floor sanitizing, and other general janitorial tasks.

• Perform high dusting in a counterclockwise sequence, including light fixtures above doors, curtain tops, vents, and ledges.
• Care for the high duster by brushing debris downward into the service cart.
• Sanitize lower surfaces such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans using the correct germicidal solution.
• Remove fingerprints and marks from doorknobs and walls and spot clean windows as needed.
• Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilet seats, toilet bowls, soap dispensers, and paper dispensers; restock supplies when necessary.
• Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean the can if there is any liquid inside.
• Dust mop or vacuum floors from the back of the room toward the exit, including under furniture and in restrooms.
• Clean and maintain entrances, hallways, lobby areas, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spots on a daily basis.
• Sanitize floors using the proper solution, working from the back of the room toward the door.
• Review each completed area to confirm proper cleaning, furniture placement, and overall presentation.

Outdoor and common-area upkeep

Grounds and public areas must be checked and cleaned multiple times each day.

• Empty and clean ash urns and outdoor trash cans.
• Pick up litter, cigarette butts, and trash from sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, and parking lots.
• Remove spills from sidewalks and scrape off gum when required.
• Wipe benches, vending machines, lower window ledges, glass surfaces, and areas with dust or cobwebs.
• Keep planters clean and free from bird waste inside and out.
• Inspect corners, edges, and window areas for dirt and cobwebs, including high dusting at least twice per week.
• Maintain public glass and other visible surfaces as needed.

Food court duties

• Clean tables, remove trash, and sanitize eating surfaces.
• Return chairs under tables after cleaning.
• Spot clean spills and empty trash containers.
• Remove dirty trays to the wash room, clean them with a tray power washer, and stack the clean trays for reuse.
• Keep outside dining areas clean and orderly.

Service standards and conduct

The role requires strong customer service behavior, attention to detail, and quiet, professional conduct throughout the shift.

• Knock before entering occupied spaces.
• Be courteous, upbeat, and helpful when interacting with customers.
• Direct questions to the appropriate person when needed.
• Report anything broken, damaged, or out of order to a supervisor.
• Work quietly and avoid unnecessary noise, conversation, or laughter.
• Remain in the assigned area unless a supervisor requests otherwise.
• Maintain a clean, neat personal appearance at all times.
• Notify the supervisor if assigned work is not finished by the end of the shift.
• Carry out other assigned duties as directed by the supervisor or account manager.

Additional duties

Other tasks may include floor care work such as stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto scrubbing, and floor buffing.

Qualifications and working knowledge

Applicants should understand basic janitorial operations, common cleaning materials and equipment, safe work practices, and the proper use of both toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.

Physical requirements

This job involves active, hands-on work throughout the shift and may require walking, standing, or sitting for long periods.

• Operate powered and non-powered janitorial tools and equipment.
• Lift, carry, and handle equipment, supplies, and trash weighing 1 to 30 lbs.
• Push and pull with both arms and hands while cleaning, applying 5 to 35 lbs of force.
• Climb stairs and ladders to clean upper areas and drapes.
• Bend, twist, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, and use fine hand movements during cleaning tasks.
• Maintain good vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for safe equipment use and task execution.
