Job description

Position Overview

This role is based within the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Business Operations Department at Navy Region Center Singapore. The main responsibility is to prepare, serve, and manage sales of a restricted selection of food and beverages at MWR-run dining locations.

Key Duties

  • Take food orders from customers and prepare simple menu items such as sandwiches, pizzas, and salads.
  • Prepare ingredients by cleaning, slicing, dicing vegetables, meats, and cheeses for food items.
  • Measure and assemble ingredients accurately following set recipes to support cooks.
  • Maintain beverage coolers by restocking them consistently.
  • Serve alcoholic drinks when necessary.
  • Brew coffee in large quantities using urns and operate machines like espresso makers and blenders to prepare coffee and frozen beverages.
  • Arrange food displays on service counters, steam tables, and dining tables with hot and cold offerings, including meats, vegetables, desserts, and drinks.
  • Clear and clean used dishes, trays, tables, and counters; sweep and mop floors; sanitize waste bins; and handle heavy waste when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness in kitchen spaces including equipment, worktables, sinks, refrigerators, and storage areas.
  • Separate and manage food waste from bar utensils and dishware.
  • Receive food deliveries, unload trucks, and store supplies properly.
  • Coordinate food and drink arrangements for special events.
  • Adhere strictly to safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Operate cash registers or POS systems to process sales, handle payments, and maintain cash funds.
  • Provide customers with product and price details.
  • Verify the accuracy of guest checks during service.
  • Compile Daily Activity Reports at the end of shifts.

Conditions and Requirements

  • Applicants must pass comprehensive background checks including National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI/T1).
  • Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and overtime assignments.
  • Certain trainings must be obtained within three days of hire such as Cash Handling, Responsible Alcohol Service, and Hygiene/Sanitation.
  • Minimum age for applicants is 18 years.
  • Work must be performed with limited supervision, demonstrating organization and ability to multi-task efficiently amid interruptions.
  • Experience or familiarity with maintaining food preparation areas in tidy, safe, and sanitary conditions.
  • Ability to operate kitchen appliances including blenders, mixers, grills, ovens, and coffee machines.
  • Knowledge and adherence to food safety, sanitation principles, and proper handling procedures to prevent contamination and waste.
  • Skills in executing multi-step tasks accurately and following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Competency in basic arithmetic for cash handling and record keeping.
  • Strong communication skills both spoken and written.
