About the Role
Nearwater Capital is broadening its presence in Dublin and seeks a well-organized Financial Accountant to join its Global Accounting and Finance team. This pivotal hands-on role involves managing the firm's daily operational accounting activities, including profit and loss generation, IFRS financial statement preparation, and regulatory reporting responsibilities. As part of the team, you will collaborate closely with internal departments to ensure appropriate accounting treatments and help develop new workflows as the firm adopts new accounting systems. Your reporting outputs will be integral to the company's management of capital, risk, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily, monthly, and quarterly profit & loss statements along with detailed P&L attribution analysis.
- Compile audited financial statements in accordance with IFRS GAAP standards.
- Handle accounting tasks linked to trading activities, including maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to trading accounts.
- Submit Class 2 MiFID Investment Firm regulatory reports to the Central Bank of Ireland, encompassing FINREP, IFREP (Own Funds) reports, and Monthly Matrix reports.
- Assist in preparing ICARA (capital adequacy assessments), Recovery Plans, and Investment Products templates.
- Drive automation efforts, enhance processes continuously, and respond to ad hoc assignments or special projects.
Candidate Profile
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in financial accounting.
- Hold a recognized accounting certification such as ACA, ACCA, CPA Ireland, or CIMA.
- Experience in hedge funds, banking, Big Four firms, or a relevant financial services sector is preferred.
- Proficient in investment accounting and familiar with complex financial products.
- Strong preference for candidates experienced with Class 2 MiFID Investment Firm regulatory reporting, including FINREP, IFREP, and ICARA.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and comfortable managing large datasets.
- Outstanding communication skills, capable of articulating accounting concepts clearly and working collaboratively across teams.
Benefits and Opportunities
- Opportunity to be deeply involved in transitioning to a new accounting infrastructure, influencing workflow design and control frameworks.
- Exposure to comprehensive P&L preparation, IFRS financial reporting, and regulatory compliance tasks involving the Central Bank of Ireland.
- Work directly with colleagues from Risk, Finance, Operations, and Compliance, gaining insight into cross-functional processes within a compact firm.
- Play a role in shaping new business segment development as Nearwater grows across Dublin, London, Toronto, and New York.
Work Style
- Highly organized and self-directed with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines without errors.
- Competent in handling significant data volumes and leveraging Excel for automation and process efficiency.
- Communicates clearly and persuasively, whether in documentation, explaining accounting treatments, or resolving ad hoc requests.
- Collaborates effectively across departments and welcomes the challenge of creating new workflows rather than maintaining existing procedures.
- Demonstrates rigor and precision in financial and regulatory reporting due to the critical impact of accuracy on the firm.
