Field Worker III

About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is seeking qualified Nigerian nationals for the position of Field Worker III at its Headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. This role is a two-year renewable contract based onsite in Ibadan, requiring hands-on involvement in nursery propagation and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out nursery propagation tasks including substrate preparation, potting, corm splitting, plantlet extraction, watering, and general plantlet management.
• Accurately record data for propagation experiments, ensuring proper labeling and traceability in accordance with guidelines.
• Adhere to laboratory and screenhouse standard operating procedures and safety protocols during daily tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of nursery facilities, tools, and related areas; assist in transporting planting materials as needed.
• Undertake any additional tasks assigned by supervisors relevant to nursery operations.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Minimum educational requirement of O' Level certification combined with at least three years of relevant experience in a structured setting.
• In-depth understanding of nursery propagation methods, including substrate preparation, plant handling, potting, and general care.
• Practical experience with banana and other vegetatively propagated crops; foundational knowledge of tissue culture and screenhouse operations.
• Competence in precise data entry, accurate material labeling, and maintaining experimental traceability.
• Detail-focused team member with strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational abilities; capable of working independently while ensuring safety and productivity.
