Overview
This role provides essential Emergency Medical Services (EMS) communication support to EMS field teams and hospital personnel. It involves managing medevac helicopter operations by handling service requests, assigning and dispatching aircraft, closely monitoring flight safety conditions, and coordinating notifications with hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to calls requesting medevac helicopter transport services.
- Continuously assess weather and other factors that impact flight safety.
- Assign and dispatch suitable aircraft to meet emergency needs.
- Use helicopter tracking systems to monitor flight safety throughout operations.
- Communicate with EMS field staff requiring coordination with hospitals for notifications or medical directions.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of one year of experience either as an emergency communication operator or as a pre-hospital clinical provider (such as a licensed EMT or Emergency Medical Dispatcher).
- Year-for-year substitution allowed between additional relevant experience and education requirements.
- Military experience in emergency communications or management roles may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for required experience.
Preferred Credentials
- Certifications such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher are favored.
- Experience handling medevac requests and communications between EMS field personnel and hospitals is preferred.
Licensing and Additional Requirements
- If duties require vehicle operation, a valid Maryland state driver’s license is necessary.
- Employees may be subject to 24-hour on-call status and must provide reachable contact information.
- Mandatory compliance with drug testing according to Maryland regulations.
Selection Process
