Role Overview
As a Drone Mapping Specialist, you will play a critical role in capturing precise aerial imagery of dairy farms. This imagery forms the basis for mapping paddocks, planning deployments, and ensuring a seamless experience for our farming customers from the start.
This position requires fieldwork, traveling to dairy farms throughout your designated region to conduct drone flights, liaise with farmers, and ensure mapping is done safely, efficiently, and meets Halter’s quality standards.
There are two permanent vacancies available—one for the North Island and one for the South Island. Candidates can be located anywhere provided they are willing to travel as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Travel to dairy farms across your region to perform drone-based aerial mapping.
- Schedule farm visits considering weather conditions, farmer availability, travel times, and deployment priorities.
- Communicate directly with farmers to arrange visits, confirm access and logistics, and explain onsite activities.
- Consistently capture high-quality aerial images used to create orthomaps for paddock layouts and farm setup.
- Accurately upload, log, and verify mapping data after each visit.
- Maintain a professional representation of Halter while working on customer farms.
- Occasionally support other tasks related to farm operations as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Effective communicator who can quickly establish rapport with farmers and represent Halter positively.
- Highly organized with the capacity to independently plan your day and manage multiple visits within a region.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and commitment to completing deployment tasks efficiently.
- Self-sufficient after training, while keeping the larger team informed of progress.
- Detail-oriented in capturing, uploading, and documenting mapping data accurately.
- Capable problem solver who can adapt plans in response to weather, farm access, equipment issues, or other field challenges.
- Holds a full and clean driver’s license.
- Able to travel extensively and be away from home for 2–3 nights per week.
Additional Information
We seek individuals who are organized, reliable, comfortable engaging with farmers, and capable of working autonomously. Success in this role largely depends on strong time management, effective communication, and the ability to deliver results in a dynamic, deployment-focused environment.
Halter is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion, supporting applicants from all backgrounds especially those under-represented in tech. We encourage applicants who feel passionate about the role to apply, even if they don't meet every listed qualification.
