Drafter

Overview

The Drafter plays a vital role within the Services Engineering group by creating detailed 2-D drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM) for above-ground storage tank projects using AutoCAD. Under the guidance of a Project Lead, the role involves learning and applying company standards, industry codes, design principles, and gradually increasing independence in generating accurate and compliant drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce customer, fabrication, and erection drawings for above-ground storage tanks and related assemblies following company standards, sketches, and notes using AutoCAD.
• Enter data into tank datasheets to generate precise drawings and BOMs; verify the accuracy of data against project scopes.
• Update and cross-check redline drawings for submissions, fabrication, and erection stages as directed.
• Develop detailed drawings from general design layouts, indicating materials, tolerances, and other necessary information to ensure completeness.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to industry standards such as API, design and building codes, and company protocols.
• Review engineering drawings to maintain compliance with established standards and company policies.
• Apply mathematical, trigonometric, and geometric methods to solve drafting challenges and enhance drawing accuracy.
• Select and apply appropriate standard details to address non-routine drafting tasks based on industry knowledge.
• Manage small projects independently or support larger ones, adapting methods for unique aspects through sound judgment.
• Maintain and improve skills using the Engineering Manufacturing Production system to assist the Project Lead.
• Deliver error-free drawings and BOMs that meet project specifications, contributing to high-quality output.
• Provide guidance and support to less experienced drafters when needed.
• Meet deadlines set by the Project Lead and communicate proactively about schedule issues.
• Interact professionally with engineering teams, Project Leads, and clients as required.

Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate degree in Drafting or Technology is preferred.
• Hold AutoCAD certification or exhibit proven proficiency with AutoCAD software.
• Have 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in drafting within the tank industry or a related field. Familiarity with AutoCAD commands and functions is necessary.
• No prior experience specifically in tanks is mandatory as on-the-job training will be provided.
