Job Overview
Hume City Council, located in Broadmeadows, Victoria, is seeking a full-time Coordinator Sustainability Engagement on an 18-month fixed-term contract. The role involves leading the Sustainability Engagement team to enhance environmental and sustainability initiatives within this rapidly growing and culturally rich community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and nurture the Sustainability Engagement team to foster a collaborative and innovative workplace atmosphere.
- Develop and maintain a team culture that recognises diverse skills, encourages proactive participation in team discussions, keeps members informed on relevant matters, and promotes sharing of best practices.
- Coordinate the creation, execution, assessment, and revision of sustainability-related strategies and policies, including the Live Green Plan and Land & Biodiversity Plan.
- Guide and evaluate major sustainability projects such as the Rural Engagement Program, Gardens for Wildlife, Schools Sustainability Engagement, and Enviro Champions.
- Conduct research and prepare comprehensive reports on complex environmental sustainability topics, offering recommendations where appropriate.
- Provide expert technical advice across the organisation to ensure alignment with government strategies, policies, and sustainability objectives.
- Support community groups and individuals in Hume to effectively address environmental sustainability challenges.
- Oversee behaviour change initiatives aimed at empowering the community to adopt sustainable living practices.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant domain or significant equivalent experience.
- Possession of a current driver’s license.
- Strong knowledge of environmental policy frameworks and related government legislation.
- Deep understanding of local government challenges and opportunities in sustainability.
- Proven leadership capabilities fostering positive, collaborative, and high-performing teams.
- Extensive experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating sustainability policies, strategies, and programs.
- Expertise in sustainability practices, including behaviour change methods, capacity-building, biodiversity conservation, and cultural heritage preservation.
- Competence in financial, people, and project management.
- Excellent communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
