Role Overview

As a Controller reporting to the Head of Strategic Finance, you will play a crucial role in scaling and refining Origin's financial operations. Joining a fast-growing Series A company, you will transition the finance function from basic accounting processes to a sophisticated, scalable system that supports global expansion while ensuring audit readiness and financial transparency.

Key Responsibilities

Manage daily accounting activities, including those for foreign subsidiaries such as in Canada and Israel, handling multi-currency consolidation, and ensuring local tax compliance.
Collaborate with People Operations to coordinate payroll execution for international contractors and Employer of Record employees.
Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, delivering GAAP-compliant financial statements.
Prepare and present monthly financial snapshots and board-level reports focusing on KPIs, burn rate, and runway.
Lead preparation efforts for the company's inaugural external audit.
Oversee all tax filings, including VAT, GST, and R&D credits, liaising with external tax advisors when necessary.
Assess and administer ERP and other financial platforms to improve operations.
Develop and implement effective internal controls to reduce risk while maintaining startup agility.
Automate accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and expense management workflows.
Monitor daily cash balances and optimize treasury functions.
Partner with department leaders to review budgets against actual spending, providing financial oversight.

Candidate Profile

Minimum four years of accounting experience, including at least two years within a high-growth startup.
Possession of an active CPA license; experience with Big 4 accounting firms is highly advantageous.
Advanced proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets, along with familiarity with global payment systems and mid-market ERP software.
Strong eagerness to learn about international finance regulations and tax landscapes, with the capability to utilize external experts effectively.
Comfortable operating in a fully remote, asynchronous communication environment, prioritizing documentation and creating single sources of truth.
An entrepreneurial mindset focused on building efficient processes rather than solely following existing manuals.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with international financial consolidation across multiple entities and currencies.
Knowledge of tools such as Rippling, Carta, Ramp, and Quickbooks.
Background supporting software companies through Series B or C funding rounds.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $192,000 per year.
