About the Role

EY invites applications for consulting roles within its Defence and National Security practice based in Wellington, New Zealand. This full-time position offers a chance to contribute to meaningful, high-impact projects that advance national interests in the public sector. Successful candidates will work on complex government programs supporting Defence and National Security, assisting with operations, procurement, asset and investment management, and organizational transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use structured analytical approaches to address challenges in Defence, National Security, and the wider public sector with practical, outcome-oriented solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with government clients and internal EY teams to implement sustainable change in complex environments.
  • Analyze data and information to derive insights that support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Engage with diverse projects across operational, procurement, and transformation domains.

Candidate Profile and Skills

  • Strong enthusiasm for public sector delivery, especially within New Zealand’s Government context.
  • Relevant practical experience in consulting, public policy, national security, emergency management, infrastructure, or other complex government settings.
  • Curiosity towards understanding and improving systemic operations.
  • Committed to high professional standards, demonstrates sound judgement, and takes ownership of opportunities and challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—as well as analytical abilities and stakeholder engagement expertise with a focus on delivery.
  • Experience or familiarity with business case development, artificial intelligence, operating model design, or organizational governance is advantageous.

Security Clearance Requirements

Certain positions necessitate the ability to attain and maintain New Zealand Government security clearance, requiring:

  • New Zealand citizenship, permanent residence, or an active residency class visa.
  • Possibly continuous residence in NZ, Australia, Canada, the UK, or the USA for the past ten years.
  • A verifiable ten-year background history for security assessment purposes.
