About the Role

As a College Counselor at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Milwaukee, WI, you will empower students and their families to successfully navigate the college admissions and matriculation process. Grounded in the Jesuit values and a commitment to equity, you will foster a robust culture of college-going through personalized advising, relationship building, and collaboration across the school community.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver the CRJ College Readiness curriculum alongside the College Counseling Team.
• Teach 12th grade college readiness courses each fall semester and 11th grade college readiness courses each spring semester, along with occasional lessons for underclassmen.
• Provide dedicated counseling to a cohort of 40–50 seniors, assisting with college selection, application essays, financial aid processes, interpreting aid awards, and final enrollment choices.
• Offer tailored and equitable support to seniors and families throughout their college application journey.
• Coordinate a smooth transfer of advising support as students transition to alumni services after senior spring.
• Organize parent engagement initiatives such as FAFSA workshops, college fairs, and College Signing Day.
• Help sustain and promote a college-going ethos throughout the entire school community.
• Support 9th–11th graders with summer pre-college program applications and completion.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Work Study Program to foster career exploration opportunities for students in grades 9–12.
• Arrange and manage college admissions events, including on-campus visits and presentations by admissions representatives.
• Forge strong connections with college admissions and student support staff to enhance CRJ applicant and alumni experiences.
• Maintain and analyze data on college admissions and financial aid.
• Work with school leadership and counseling colleagues to meet college readiness targets, including 100% college admission and FAFSA completion goals, utilizing data to refine counseling strategies.
• Ensure a positive school climate by monitoring transitions, meals, and common areas; chaperone school events; and fulfill substitute teaching duties when necessary.
• Volunteer for extracurricular leadership roles such as coaching, club management, event planning, or retreat leadership.
• Exemplify CRJ’s Ignatian values through empathy, reliability, integrity, gratitude, optimism, and communal service.
• Engage in professional development and formation activities aligned with the Cristo Rey Network's offerings.
• Collaborate respectfully and constructively with diverse stakeholders to uphold the school's mission and collective goals.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree or higher is mandatory; credentials or coursework in school counseling, college access, or a related discipline are preferred.
• Experience or expertise in college admissions and financial aid processes is advantageous.
• Understanding of the academic, emotional, and life skills essential for college success, particularly for first-generation students and families.
• Prior teaching experience is beneficial.
• Fluency in Spanish and English is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal abilities with proven success engaging diverse student populations, families, and colleagues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to produce clear, professional materials for stakeholders.
• Highly organized with attention to detail, able to balance counseling caseloads, teaching duties, and program initiatives.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing the Jesuit educational mission and serving under-resourced communities.
