Overview
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), a bipartisan state agency governed by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission appointed by the Governor, manages major transportation modes available to Missourians. The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) will report to the Director in coordination with the Deputy Director/Chief Engineer. Reporting to the CAO are leaders of Communications, Employee Engagement and Outreach, Human Resources, and the Assistant to the CAO.
Role Summary
The CAO offers strategic oversight and leadership over MoDOT’s administrative functions, directing communications, media relations, human resources, equal employment opportunity, risk management, and benefits administration. This position acts as the main advisor for administrative matters, aligns operations with departmental strategic and business plans, develops policy, represents MoDOT to stakeholders and state agencies, and prioritizes strengthening recruitment and retention efforts to build and sustain a skilled workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise leadership on all administrative concerns.
- Oversee and direct administrative support services to meet department goals, providing resources for division leaders' success.
- Encourage development and implement innovative solutions addressing Missouri’s transportation challenges.
- Coordinate throughout the department to ensure fulfillment of strategic and business plan objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related discipline.
- At least nine years of progressively responsible management experience in areas such as benefits management, business administration, communications, human resources management, or public administration with senior leadership responsibilities.
Special Conditions
- Job requires frequent statewide overnight travel.
- Direct supervision of division directors within the related functional areas.
