Job Overview
The role of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Pikes Peak Post Acute involves delivering ongoing daily nursing care to assigned residents aligned with their assessments and individual care plans, under the supervision and directives of nursing leaders.
Core Responsibilities
- Confirm residents' identities via wristbands or photo ID cards before administering treatments or providing meals.
- Utilize only the facility's approved abbreviations for documentation.
- Immediately notify the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse of any changes in resident health conditions.
- Maintain detailed, clear, and descriptive records of care activities and observations on flow sheets, charts, and notes.
- Report any accidents or unusual incidents occurring during shifts without delay.
- Strictly protect residents' health information confidentiality and report any unauthorized disclosures or access attempts to the Administrator.
- Perform only nursing tasks for which you have received training and authorization.
- Prepare resident rooms prior to arrival, including making beds, displaying name tags, and assembling admission kits.
- Welcome residents, assist them to their rooms, facilitate introductions to roommates and staff, and ensure their comfort.
- Manage residents' personal belongings through inventory, marking, packing during transfers or discharge, and safe clothing storage.
- Assist residents with room or vehicle transfer logistics, including loading and unloading when necessary.
- Foster a warm, positive, and calm atmosphere throughout the care unit during your shift.
- Engage with nursing team regularly to identify issues and improve service quality.
- Document and report all resident complaints and grievances accurately.
- Participate actively in nursing reports at shift changes and as directed.
- Adhere to protocols for exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious materials.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as bed-making and applying extra covers as requested.
- Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, and respiration as instructed; weigh and measure residents as needed.
- Continuously monitor residents unable to summon help and respond promptly to call signals.
- Assist residents in recognizing food arrangements and monitor dietary intake, reporting deviations to nursing supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and adequate hydration by refilling water pitchers each shift within easy reach.
- Provide after-meal care including removing trays and cleaning residents' hands and faces.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth delivery of nursing services.
- Inform the facility promptly of any absences or lateness.
- Assist with residents' daily personal care such as oral hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, and managing incontinence.
- Manage residents’ skin integrity by timely changing soiled clothing and linens to keep them dry.
- Support residents in preparing for medical tests and examinations.
- Help with safe moving, lifting, turning, and positioning of residents using approved equipment.
- Implement restorative and rehabilitation routines as instructed.
- Monitor for pressure sores, skin tears, unknown injuries and report findings immediately.
- Supervise confused or unconscious residents, recording observations as required.
- Perform special treatments and interventions as directed.
- Immediately alert charge personnel if a resident is missing or leaves the facility unexpectedly.
- Report defective equipment to appropriate supervisors.
- Respect residents' refusal of treatment and communicate such requests promptly.
Qualifications
- Minimum education requirement: completion of 10th grade.
- Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant as per local state regulations.
- CPR certification is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and understand business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and manuals.
- Competent at presenting information effectively and answering queries from management and colleagues.
- Mathematical skills to handle practical applications of fractions, ratios, percentages, and proportions.
- Problem-solving skills to address varied situations with limited standardization.
- Capability to interpret instructions delivered through various forms, including written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Occasional lifting and moving of residents or objects up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and computer use.
- Use of office equipment such as copiers, scanners, fax machines, telephones, and calculators.
- May assist in emergency evacuations when necessary.
- Work environment generally features low to moderate noise levels.
