Caretaker

Role Overview

The Caretaker is responsible for delivering a variety of support services within designated Police Scotland premises. Under the guidance of the Facilities Officer or Senior Caretaker, duties encompass maintenance, porterage, cleaning, and general security to maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and visitors.

Working Hours and Location

This is a fixed-term contract lasting 12 months, operating from the Edinburgh Fettes site. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

• Detect faults or damages within buildings and either resolve them directly or escalate to the Facilities Officer or Senior Caretaker, including managing any emergency building situations to uphold safety and maintenance standards.
• Conduct daily inspections of plant equipment and rooms to ensure heating, ventilation, and hot water systems function efficiently and reliably.
• Maintain and repair all lighting, alarm systems, and water or sanitary installations as necessary.
• Handle confidential waste securely by collecting, storing, shredding, and transferring to authorized disposal locations.
• Maintain building and car park entrances, manage snow and grit clearance on paths and roads, and facilitate access for refuse operators to keep premises safe and accessible.
