About the Role
Delta Centre seeks compassionate and committed Care Assistants to aid adults with intellectual disabilities in reaching their fullest potential. This position especially fits candidates experienced in supporting individuals displaying challenging behaviours, dedicated to providing person-centred, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to individuals with challenging behaviours by implementing Behaviour Support Plans consistently and effectively.
- Identify behavioural triggers and early warning signs, utilizing positive behaviour support methods to respond suitably.
- Maintain calmness, patience, and professionalism during difficult situations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to foster positive outcomes and minimize restrictive practices.
- Assist learners in developing coping mechanisms, communication skills, and increasing their independence.
- Keep detailed records and contribute to the evaluation and updating of support plans.
- Deliver person-centred care by treating learners with dignity, respect, and compassion while encouraging community engagement.
- Support learners in making choices and participating actively in community, educational, and recreational activities.
- Maintain and implement individual care and person-centred plans.
- Build trusting relationships with learners through consistent, understanding support.
- Respect and promote the rights, individuality, and preferences of each learner.
- Adhere strictly to organizational policies, HIQA standards, HSE policies, safeguarding rules, and relevant legislation.
- Maintain professional conduct and contribute positively within the team environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of QQI/FETAC Level 5 qualification in Healthcare, Social Care, Community Care, or a related field.
- Proven experience working with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours.
- Sound knowledge of person-centred approaches and positive behaviour support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support, Autism, MAPA, CPI, or equivalent interventions.
- Familiarity with HIQA standards and safeguarding protocols.
