Africa World Airlines Limited (AWA) is a private Ghanaian airline headquartered in Accra, operating primarily out of Kotoka International Airport. Founded in 2012 as a joint venture between HNA Group/Hainan Airlines and Ghanaian and Chinese stakeholders, the airline operates under Air Carrier License 222 and Air Operator Certificate 030 granted by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority. Starting with Embraer 145 jets, AWA has expanded its fleet to 8 aircraft serving 10 destinations in West Africa. The airline is recognized globally by ICAO (AFW) and IATA (AW) codes.

Role Overview

The Captain role is a full-time position based onsite in the Greater Accra Region. It includes responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of scheduled flights. Key duties involve flight planning, pre-flight aircraft inspections, managing the flight deck, monitoring aircraft systems, and collaborating with ground and cabin personnel. The Captain ensures compliance with regulatory and company policies, implements safety and security protocols, leads and directs the flight crew, and maintains high standards of professionalism and passenger service. The role requires participating in recurrent training, reporting operational concerns, and contributing to ongoing enhancements in flight operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Possession of a valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with the relevant type rating and a current Class 1 medical certificate compliant with Ghana Civil Aviation Authority standards.
• Extensive flight experience, including recent command experience as Pilot-in-Command on commercial jets or turboprop aircraft, ideally within West African regional routes.
• Advanced piloting proficiency encompassing aircraft systems, navigation, performance management, and modern avionics usage.
• Strong knowledge of aviation safety practices, risk mitigation, emergency response, and adherence to operational regulations.
• Proven leadership skills including crew resource management and effective communication with diverse teams.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, variable weather, and operational challenges.
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and customer-oriented approach to passenger experience.
• Fluent English communication skills; knowledge of additional regional languages is beneficial.
• Flexibility to work varying schedules as operational demands dictate.
