This role entails close collaboration with engineering and design teams to prepare plans, profiles, single-line diagrams, layouts, and as-built records adhering to client and utility standards as well as applicable regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and update CAD drawings for overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines, substations including layouts, grounding systems, conduit, and cable routing, plus duct banks, manholes, vaults, and other civil site components.
- Create plan views, profile sections, detailed schematics based on engineers' markups, sketches, and field redlines.
- Maintain drawing templates, title blocks, standard details, and symbol libraries consistent with company and client requirements.
- Transform rough sketches and on-site notes into clear, constructible drawings.
- Validate all drawings to ensure compliance with client and utility CAD standards, company drafting protocols, naming conventions, and relevant codes.
- Conduct self-reviews for accuracy and consistency and promptly incorporate feedback from quality assurance reviews.
- Organize CAD file management, ensuring accurate version control, appropriate file naming, and secure storage within document management systems.
- Prepare and update indexes, lists, and registers supporting design submittals, permit processes, construction documentation, and as-built record keeping.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to gather information and resolve any drafting-related issues.
- Engage with multi-disciplinary teams including civil, structural, and electrical experts to guarantee integrated, clash-free drawing sets.
- Participate in coordination meetings to communicate draft impacts, drawing needs, and standards alignment.
- Support communication with external parties such as clients, utilities, and contractors regarding CAD drawing standards and formats as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent, with additional certification or diploma in drafting, CAD technology, engineering technology, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute.
- At least 6 years of experience performing CAD drafting duties, specifically within the power utilities, electrical infrastructure, or related sectors.
- Proficient with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software utilized by the organization.
