CAD Designer/Modeler

Role Overview and Responsibilities

This position involves creating precise 2D production drawings and 3D solid or surface models utilizing specialized CAD software. Tasks include reviewing the technical data of parts, components, and systems for accuracy and completeness. The candidate will develop process documentation and identify requirements for tooling, jigs, and fixtures, while providing feedback and reviewing engineering designs. Supporting CNC file creation, testing, and deployment is also part of the role.

The designer will detect design conflicts, manufacturing challenges, and discrepancies in drawings. They will assist project managers and engineers in scheduling, collecting data, and preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, and test documentation. Collaboration with engineering, project management, and manufacturing teams is essential to ensure alignment and troubleshoot design and compatibility issues. The role requires skills to extrapolate or infer missing technical data, aiding reverse engineering efforts, including updating and adjusting designs according to client input, test outcomes, or project scope changes. Active participation in project meetings and reporting project status and results is expected. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will hold an Associate's Degree in a technical or scientific field or possess equivalent professional experience. They must have a minimum of 4 years of practical experience with 2D and 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, NX, or similar applications. A sound knowledge base in dimensional mathematics, physics, and materials used in manufacturing or construction is essential.

Preferred experience includes aerospace, precision machining, and reverse engineering projects, alongside expertise in commercial product and automotive component design. Familiarity with ASME Y14 engineering standards is highly valued.

Security and Physical Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and the ability to attain a security clearance may be required. The role demands physical capabilities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and operating hand and power tools and machine controls. Frequent wrist, hand, and finger movements, and extended periods working at a computer while seated or standing, are routine. Safety protocols must be followed rigidly, including wearing protective gear such as eyewear, gloves, masks, and hearing protection. Candidates should be able to safely lift and carry weights up to 20 pounds.
