About Riverlane
Riverlane is dedicated to advancing quantum error correction (QEC) technology, aiming to enable breakthrough solutions in material science, climate research, and drug discovery through fault-tolerant quantum computing. Having secured over $125 million in funding, the company collaborates with top quantum hardware providers and government bodies globally to make QEC a practical reality, expanding operations rapidly, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
Position Overview
We are expanding our footprint across APAC including Australia, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. As a Business Development Manager for APAC, you will be responsible for nurturing and expanding Riverlane’s commercial opportunities regionally, transitioning preliminary contacts into signed agreements, and identifying new partnerships in government, research institutions, and industry domains as our QEC technology approaches commercial readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and advance existing relationships with national research institutes, government-sponsored initiatives, and commercial entities from initial discussions through contract execution.
- Seek out and validate new business opportunities in priority markets addressing government RFIs/RFPs, industry alliances, and academic collaborations.
- Maintain and update a regional sales pipeline tracking deal stages, projected revenues, and subsequent steps for internal review.
- Serve as the main regional liaison for key partners and government officials, representing Riverlane at conferences and industry events.
- Collaborate with local contacts and distributors to maximize reach, and coordinate with other Riverlane BD leads globally for cross-regional engagements.
- Provide market insights concerning competitors, funding programs, and procurement cycles to inform strategic planning.
- Contribute to pipeline analytics and reporting on weekly and annual bases.
- Work alongside company leadership to focus efforts on markets and opportunities with the best commercial and strategic alignment.
- Support the development of proposals and bids, coordinating inputs across technical, legal, and financial teams.
- Coordinate with technical and product teams to ensure proposals are feasible and credible.
- Engage legal and finance departments for contract negotiations and partnership agreements.
- Keep internal stakeholders informed about regional activities and progress.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven ability to cultivate relationships across diverse cultures and stakeholder groups, including government, industry, and academia.
- Highly self-motivated and capable of independently managing activities across multiple time zones.
- Experience handling extended, complex sales cycles common in government and deep-technology procurement.
- Technical competence sufficient to understand and accurately represent Riverlane’s quantum technologies without being a domain expert.
- Excellent communication skills, adaptable for both technical and general audiences.
- Strong commercial acumen with negotiation and contract management experience.
- Minimum five years in business development, partnerships, or sales, preferably within deep technology, government/defense, or intricate B2B/B2G sectors.
- Familiarity working within APAC markets such as Australia, Japan, Korea, or Singapore; multilingual abilities in Japanese or Korean are advantageous but not required.
- Educational background in engineering, physics, computer science or related fields is desirable but not mandatory.
- History of successfully closing complex multi-party deals involving government or enterprise clients.
- Knowledge of quantum computing, high-performance computing, or other emerging deep-tech industries is a plus.
Benefits and Work Environment
- An extensive benefits package including annual bonuses, private medical coverage, life insurance, and a contributory pension plan.
- Equity options to participate in Riverlane’s long-term corporate success.
- A multicultural workplace with experts from over 20 nationalities in fields such as software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics, and mathematics.
- A culture promoting continuous learning and growth through regular training events, and budgets for conferences and professional development.
