What this role does

This position focuses on preparing baked goods such as breads and pastries while maintaining the right level of quality and output for daily service. The work is guided by menus and production needs, and the employee uses judgment to apply baking knowledge and standard recipes appropriately.

Key duties

• Estimate daily baking needs based on the number of diners or production orders.
• Assign work to helpers and keep records of ingredient usage and pastry output.
• Weigh, mix, and prepare ingredients to produce dough and a wide range of baked items.
• Bake rolls, cornbread, doughnuts, muffins, biscuits, pies, cakes, and cookies.
• Prepare icings and decorate cakes as required.
• Run baking equipment such as mixers, molders, scales, and ovens.
• Maintain equipment, identify service needs, and report repair issues.
• Order or requisition supplies when needed and maintain formula records used in baking.
• Provide guidance and instruction to food service staff assisting with baking and cleaning tasks.
• Carry out other related duties assigned by management.

Schedule and working conditions

This role is scheduled for 40 hours per week. Work hours can vary and may include evenings and weekends. The job also requires long periods of standing and work in high-temperature environments.

Physical requirements

The position involves lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling products up to 30 lbs, and performing repetitive motions with the wrists, arms, and shoulders. It also requires good hand and finger coordination, along with the ability to reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel. Work may take place in noisy areas and around heat, cold, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and cleaning equipment.

Minimum qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

The role may involve supervision and instruction of food service workers. Applicants should be comfortable with frequent walking, stair climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, squatting, working with hands overhead, and using a standard or extended ladder or other raised surface during the shift.
