Job description
Overview
We are looking for an Assistant Manager specializing in Direct Tax within the Firm Tax team based in Hyderabad. The role focuses on handling partnership tax compliance for US firms, including preparing and examining various tax returns, analyzing income allocations, and managing staff within the tax function. The position requires collaboration with finance, legal, and business teams to ensure proper tax management and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review schedules and supporting documentation for federal, state, and local partnership income tax returns for US firms.
- Generate and distribute annual partner K-1 statements, reflecting income, deductions, and other separately stated items.
- Assist in the preparation of various income tax returns, including composite nonresident returns and partner-related filings.
- Conduct research on federal and state tax issues affecting the firms and help calculate estimated state tax payments.
- Support tax audits, respond to notices, manage monthly state tax accruals, oversee workflow, and supervise tax consultants on projects.
Team Context
The role is part of the US India Firm Tax team responsible for ensuring entity-level tax compliance for US companies. The team works closely with finance, legal, and business units to optimize the tax status and compliance of these companies.
Working Hours
The position requires working from 2 PM to 11 PM.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
- Eligibility for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or equivalent.
- 6 to 8 years of experience dealing with federal and state partnership tax compliance, research, and planning.
- Proven experience preparing or reviewing partnership income tax returns at federal, state, and local levels.
- Experience with Schedule K-1 preparation, including income deductions and allocations.
- Competence in analyzing state apportionment, state law adjustments, composite returns, withholding taxes, and pass-through entity tax calculations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Law.
- Previous experience in a professional services firm.
- Leadership experience supervising tax professionals on engagements or projects.
- Background in tax forecasting and planning.
- Familiarity with partner-level income allocations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
