Artificial Intelligence Engineer

About the Role

We seek an experienced Artificial Intelligence Engineer specialized in backend Python development to contribute to a pioneering AI platform designed for global sportswear brand's digital product design enhancement. This position involves creating and maintaining APIs that facilitate AI-powered functions, focusing extensively on processing 2D and 3D image data integral to product design workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs exposing AI and machine learning functionalities for internal users.
• Create RESTful services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Integrate APIs seamlessly with AWS infrastructure, including services like EC2 and S3.
• Handle data formats involving 2D images, segmentation maps, textures, and 3D assets including meshes and Blender files.
• Support preparation and validation of multimodal datasets encompassing both image and 3D data.
• Develop API endpoints that accept image inputs and generate structured outputs like masks or derived assets.
• Collaborate with AI engineers and product teams to assist in model integration and application.
• Ensure backend services maintain scalability, security, and high performance.

Requirements

• Extensive commercial experience as a Python backend developer focusing on API development.
• Proficient in building REST APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or equivalents.
• Experience with AWS services including S3 and EC2.
• Competence handling complex non-tabular data formats, particularly images and 3D assets.
• Understanding of Computer Vision or Computer Graphics concepts, including image processing and segmentation.
• Familiarity with 3D data formats, rendering pipelines, and tools like Blender is beneficial.
• Experience integrating or executing machine learning inference workflows, e.g., using PyTorch.
• Working knowledge of SQL and backend data integration.
• Solid foundation in software engineering, ideally backed by a Computer Science or related degree.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The perfect applicant is a seasoned backend Python engineer with a strong API development portfolio and sound software engineering knowledge, able to independently deliver robust backend services. While not a data scientist, the candidate should be adept in working with visual data, encompassing both 2D and 3D elements, understanding their distinction from traditional datasets. Experience with Computer Vision or handling 3D data, especially image pipelines, segmentation, and asset-based workflows, is advantageous. The role requires flexibility with frequent onsite attendance at Erlangen, Germany, and offers a long-term contract.
