Job description
Role Overview
The Aquarist is responsible for comprehensive animal husbandry and execution of underwater tasks to ensure optimal care and maintenance of marine animals and their habitats.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out animal husbandry and underwater duties for designated animals with utmost care and quality.
- Prepare and administer daily diets tailored to the nutritional needs of the animals under supervision.
- Support medical treatment procedures and facilitate animal transfers between different sites.
- Keep aquatic habitats clean and properly maintained through regular housekeeping activities.
- Conduct routine upkeep and repair of habitat facilities, tools, and equipment.
- Observe and accurately document behavioral patterns of animals for monitoring purposes.
- Perform daily debris siphoning and clean acrylic habitat panels to maintain clear viewing and healthy environments.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possess a diploma or degree in relevant fields such as Marine Science, Aquaculture, or Biological/Life Sciences.
- Having scuba diving certification at Open Water Diver level or higher is preferred; however, training and certification can be arranged if not already obtained.
- Comfortable and confident working within aquatic settings.
- Strong enthusiasm for animal care and welfare.
- Committed to environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
- Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required.
