Job description

About the Role

At SWRAC, we empower individuals through tailored and practical educational programs aimed at developing resilience, confidence, and independence. We strive to support individuals in progressing educationally, gaining employment, participating in meaningful activities, maintaining healthy lifestyles, and ensuring personal safety.

This position is based in Winton, BH3 7AN, within the ‘Thrive’ project—an initiative serving young adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This program blends informal education with activity-based learning to prepare learners for adulthood and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with individuals to explore their interests and setting goals for activities accordingly.
  • Organizing both personalized and group activities tailored to learners’ needs and abilities.
  • Coordinating community outings with attention to transport and accessibility considerations.
  • Supporting and motivating learners to participate actively in activities.
  • Planning and leading educational sessions aligned with Preparing for Adulthood outcomes suited to learners’ comprehension levels.
  • Serving as the designated person responsible for updating individual learning plans and maintaining daily achievement records.
  • Working collaboratively to develop life skills in learners for adulthood, guided by Preparing for Adulthood frameworks.
  • Providing low-level personal care when required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Preferably holding Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or a Learning Support qualification.
  • Essential proficiency in English and Maths at Level 2.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with learners and team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to motivate individuals and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with IT tools including Word, PowerPoint, and basic Excel.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures and legal frameworks such as Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Experience in learning support roles, particularly with young people with SEND and handling challenging behavior.
  • Knowledge of person-centered approaches and the SEND Code of Practice.

Terms & Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break. Occasionally, flexibility may be required to meet service needs. Annual salary is £28,773.
