Overview
Join the Finance team at Central Otago District Council as a Water Billing Officer, responsible for ensuring timely and precise billing of water accounts. This role involves preparing invoices, handling customer queries, coordinating final meter readings, collaborating with the Water Team and meter readers, and supporting follow-ups on overdue payments and arrangements.
Key Duties
- Organize and upload meter reading routes according to schedule, coordinate with the Water Team and meter readers, and address any issues arising during read rounds.
- Download meter reading data to prepare and verify water billing invoices, final read notices, and other billing-related documents for distribution.
- Handle account activities such as setting up new accounts, processing cancellations, meter changes, and other related water billing tasks.
- Investigate account histories to resolve invoice queries on meter readings and calculate appropriate remissions when necessary.
- Respond to inquiries from staff and customers regarding billings, meter readings, and other water service concerns.
- Establish and maintain new water accounts, liaising with the rates officer to update rating information as required.
- Apply penalties for overdue payments and implement recovery actions for outstanding balances.
- Maintain a sound understanding of uniform annual water rates and volumetric water rates.
- Assess and contribute to suggestions for improvements in the meter reading and water billing processes.
- Manage final meter reads by coordinating with legal representatives, scheduling service requests, and processing associated invoices.
- Follow up on billing correspondence sent to incorrect addresses.
- Prepare and process refunds pertaining to water billing.
