VMC Programmer

Role Overview

A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Programmer is responsible for creating, modifying, and refining CNC programs using CAM software to manufacture high-precision components. The position demands expertise in interpreting detailed technical drawings incorporating GD&T standards, selecting appropriate tooling, configuring machines, and assuring the quality of production outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Generate and optimize 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC programs with CAM software such as Delcam PowerMill and Mastercam, aiming to reduce cycle time and enhance operational efficiency.
• Set up Vertical Machining Center equipment, including the choice of tools and fixtures, preparing machines for productive cycles.
• Analyze technical drawings and blueprints to establish machining processes that comply with tolerances and precise geometric dimensioning and tolerancing criteria.
• Perform quality assurance by conducting in-process inspections using precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any programming errors, machine issues, or tooling failures that arise during production.
• Maintain adherence to safety protocols, conduct routine upkeep of machinery, and sustain a clean work environment.
