Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated VMware Systems Engineer to join our Enterprise Virtualization Group, reporting directly to the Director. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, deployment, and maintenance of VMware and associated infrastructure platforms critical to our global operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and manage essential infrastructure components such as servers, storage devices, network, and telecommunications systems.
  • Deploy and administer server operating systems, databases, file services, user authentication systems, email servers, backup solutions, and firewall configurations.
  • Conduct routine hardware and platform upgrades to maintain secure, stable, and efficient operations.
  • Continuously monitor system performance to identify risks and potential improvements.
  • Provide advanced (2nd and 3rd line) support for infrastructure issues and handle escalations during major incidents.
  • Engage in incident response and recovery for critical outages.
  • Design, support, and optimize VMware infrastructure solutions adhering to corporate standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to performance, capacity, and availability within the virtual environment.
  • Ensure VMware infrastructure complies with security, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, operational processes, and runbooks.
  • Operate monitoring and reporting tools to analyze system metrics such as uptime, utilization, storage capacity, backup effectiveness, and incident trends.
  • Support governance and compliance activities within a regulated financial sector environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with infrastructure, application, security, and operations teams to ensure smooth integration and service delivery.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to diverse business and technical stakeholders across regions.
  • Promote a positive team environment and demonstrate leadership when necessary.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with VMware administration and engineering in an enterprise setting.
  • Expertise with VMware technologies including vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, virtual networking, and vRealize/Aria Suite components such as Operations, Automation, and Log Insight.
  • Strong understanding of core operating system concepts including CPU, memory, storage I/O, and networking.
  • Preferred VMware certifications: VCA, VCP, VCAP.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages and automation tools such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of storage protocols and technologies including Fiber Channel, SAN, NAS, vSAN, and vVOLS.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals and backup & recovery products such as ArcServe, NetBackup, Tivoli, Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veeam.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery concepts and tools including vSphere Replication, SRM, SRDF, Zerto, and RPO vs RTO principles.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage complex workloads in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
