Trial degree program in Handicraft Management (B.A.)

About the role

This trial degree programme combines a vocational apprenticeship with an academic bachelor’s degree and is designed as a strong launchpad for future leadership roles in small and medium-sized businesses. The full programme runs for around four years.

You begin the apprenticeship and the Handicraft Management degree at the same time. The vocational training is completed over 2.5 years in the chosen trade, with most of the working week spent at the company. Training also includes attendance at vocational school and inter-company training, as is standard for apprentices.

The parallel bachelor’s degree is organised into part-time and full-time phases and is delivered in small learning groups. On-campus study days take place on Fridays and Saturdays and are supplemented by e-learning in a virtual classroom as well as study materials from experienced lecturers at the University of Applied Sciences of the Mittelstand (FHM).

What you will do in the company

• Design facades and interior spaces
• Carry out painting, coating, staining, sanding and filling work
• Install flooring such as parquet, laminate and carpet
• Wallpaper walls, including decorative and complex patterns
• Apply specialist filling techniques such as Beton Cire and Volimea
• Perform thermal insulation work on buildings to help save energy
• Interact with customers, discuss requirements and coordinate with architects and colleagues
• Select the right colour tone and develop a good feel for colour matching

Additional information

The classroom-based vocational school part takes place in Zeven. In the first year, lessons are held twice a week. From the second year onwards, classes take place once a week in Zeven, plus block teaching in Stade. Accommodation in Stade can be provided for the block-release periods.

Graduates of the trial degree programme in Handicraft Management (B.A.) can work at the interface between trade and business management, either as skilled managers, future successors or founders of their own craft business.

Terms and conditions

You can apply online to the University of Applied Sciences of the Mittelstand (FHM) after both sides decide to proceed and an apprenticeship contract has been signed. Once you have successfully completed the selection process, you can start the apprenticeship and the degree programme.

Study fees at FHM Hannover are currently EUR 398 per month, which adds up to EUR 19,104 in total. An additional fee for the final examination also applies.

During training, apprentices receive the following monthly remuneration: first year EUR 620, second year EUR 685, and third year EUR 850. In addition, you receive EUR 20 per month in capital-forming benefits.

Applications are invited from talented candidates who have already obtained a secondary qualification that grants access to a university of applied sciences.
