Overview
The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) dedicates itself to improving the lives of those affected by cancer through funding transformative research, providing compassionate support services, and advocating for a healthier future. This role supports the Wheels of Hope Transportation program, which assists clients in accessing cancer-related medical appointments across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding support and service to clients and healthcare providers seeking travel or financial aid for transportation to cancer appointments.
- Assess eligibility and determine the best program services for clients, completing all registration steps including data collection, fee handling, and compassionate evaluations when necessary.
- Maintain a welcoming phone presence while accurately recording client and appointment information in transportation management software.
- Keep all client and caregiver transportation records up-to-date and complete.
- Manage financial transactions such as fee collection and volunteer billing strictly adhering to privacy and financial protocols.
- Review, approve, or decline trip requests for the driving program, aiming to optimize scheduling efficiency and minimize unfulfilled trips.
- Ensure volunteer details are accurate and regularly confirm their availability.
- Address operational challenges including trip changes, delays, cancellations, and complaints effectively.
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes across the various Wheels of Hope programs.
- Stay informed about treatment facilities to assist clients in having a positive experience.
- Maintain strict client confidentiality at all times.
- Promote awareness of additional CCS services such as the Cancer Information Healthline, CancerConnection, and Community Services Locator to clients, caregivers, and health providers.
- Encourage the sharing of client and volunteer stories through CCS's Story-Centre platform.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Support CCS’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE) by fostering an environment where all staff feel respected and valued.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education combined with at least two years of experience in a client-focused, fast-paced environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, handle high workloads, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong telephone communication skills emphasizing active listening to effectively guide conversations without visual cues.
- Empathy, compassion, and the capability to respond appropriately to emotionally charged situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in database applications.
- Advanced knowledge of geography; knowledge of regional hospital systems is advantageous.
- Fluency in English required; bilingualism in French and English or proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
Additional Information
- This position operates under a hybrid work model with work hours scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST or 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PST.
- The salary level is classified as Band 4, with annual compensation of approximately CAD 52,000.
- The role is based in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, with possible work also in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
