Role overview
This position is responsible for steering the organization’s transport and mobility function end to end. The role focuses on ensuring employee movement is safe, dependable, cost-efficient, and fully compliant through centralized transport processes, vendor oversight, and optimized routing.
Transport operations and fleet management
- Manage day-to-day transport activities across all sites, including employee commuting, shuttle movements, and pool vehicle usage.
- Ensure the fleet, whether owned or outsourced, remains available, well-utilized, and operational.
- Track driver deployment, monitor trip activity, and improve operating efficiency.
Vendor and contract management
- Handle relationships with transport vendors, fleet operators, and other service partners.
- Set, measure, and review service levels covering punctuality, safety, and service quality.
- Lead commercial discussions, contract renewals, and periodic reviews of vendor performance.
Route planning and optimization
- Build and refine routes, duty rosters, and capacity plans.
- Use route-optimization tools and GPS-enabled tracking to improve visibility and control.
- Increase load efficiency, trip productivity, and lower cost per employee trip.
Transport management system governance
- Drive the rollout and governance of the Transport Management System (TMS).
- Maintain accuracy in trip validation, billing checks, and discrepancy closure.
- Support automation of dispatch, tracking, and reporting workflows.
Cost control and budget management
- Track transport expenditure across business units and locations.
- Implement savings opportunities through route rationalization, vendor consolidation, and better fuel utilization.
- Monitor and report metrics such as cost per kilometer and cost per employee movement.
Safety and compliance governance
- Ensure adherence to road safety rules, driver background checks, driver training, vehicle fitness requirements, permits, and insurance.
- Implement and monitor EHS standards and incident-handling protocols.
Employee experience and service delivery
- Provide employees with safe, reliable, and timely transport support.
- Manage grievances, complaints, and escalations related to transport services.
- Improve service quality and ensure pickup/drop schedules are followed.
Governance, MIS, and reporting
- Develop centralized dashboards and trackers for vehicle utilization, punctuality, cost analysis, and vendor performance.
- Present monthly governance updates to leadership and promoters.
- Provide business-unit-wise transport governance assurance.
Key deliverables and KPIs
- On-time performance percentage
- Fleet utilization percentage
- Cost per kilometer and cost per employee
- Vendor SLA adherence percentage
- Safety incidents and compliance score
- Route optimization savings percentage
Qualifications and experience
A graduate degree is required, and an MBA is preferred. The role calls for 12 to 20+ years of experience in transport management, fleet operations, mobility services, employee transportation, or other large-scale operational environments. Experience handling multi-location transport operations and vendor ecosystems is important.
Reporting and role scope
The position reports to the Head – Group Administration and involves managing transport leads, vendors, and fleet partners. It is a corporate internal transport management role with pan-India, multi-location governance responsibilities.
