Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for managing vehicular flow around construction and maintenance zones by deploying and relocating traffic control devices. The role demands vigilance, outdoor work in diverse weather conditions, and the ability to stand for prolonged intervals while ensuring safety for both workers and the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deploy and retrieve traffic control signs, cones, and barricades to direct traffic around work zones.
  • Utilize stop/slow paddles to regulate vehicular movement effectively.
  • Communicate consistently and efficiently with team members via two-way radios.
  • Remain standing and mobile for up to 10 hours daily, including manual handling of equipment over 50 pounds.
  • Operate company vehicles to transport traffic control materials to job sites and conduct routine vehicle checks.
  • Work safely amid moderate to loud noise levels, moving equipment, and exposure to weather elements and traffic.
  • Comply strictly with all company policies and perform additional assigned duties as necessary.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Passing results from drug testing and compliance with federal Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Use of proper personal protective equipment including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and vest.
  • Proficiency in operating two-way radios.
  • Adaptability to work under various weather conditions and traffic environments.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with contractors and internal teams, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate well within a team setting.
  • Demonstrated reliability, excellent attendance, personal transportation, and a strong work ethic.
  • Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training and company-provided Defensive Driver training courses.
  • Willingness to travel across the state, including overnight stays, and work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.
