Job description
Overview
Worcestershire County Council is seeking to appoint two skilled Trading Standards Officers to join their diligent Trading Standards team based at Wyre Forest House. These permanent, full-time roles, each requiring 35 hours per week, offer opportunities to work within specialised teams focusing either on commercial practices related to fair trading or on commercial standards with an emphasis on food standards.
Role Details
One position involves working with the commercial practices team addressing key issues such as illicit tobacco sales, underage selling, and counterfeit products. The other position focuses within the commercial standards team, leading initiatives on food standards. The service operates an intelligence-led model, requiring officers to conduct investigations, manage project work, and proactively contribute intelligence-based cases for monthly service tasking.
Responsibilities
- Execute a variety of enforcement and investigative activities within their specific area.
- Participate in intelligence gathering and case submissions to the monthly tasking meetings.
- Develop and sustain effective partnerships with multiple external stakeholders and partner organisations.
- Manage workload efficiently while adhering to strict regulatory deadlines.
Candidate Profile
The successful applicants will be competent professionals with substantial enforcement experience across diverse functions. They must possess excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and an ability to prioritise effectively. Candidates with the weights and measures qualification or other relevant Trading Standards qualifications are preferred.
Benefits
- Generous paid holiday entitlement starting at 26 days annually, increasing to 31 days after five years service, with the option to match higher entitlements from previous employers if joining directly without a career break.
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, a career-average pension plan valuable to local government employees.
- Support for professional learning and development to encourage career progression or exploring new opportunities within the Council.
- Flexible working arrangements including hybrid working options to promote work-life balance.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion within the workplace and community.
