Job Overview

We are seeking a meticulous Trade and Compliance Customs Specialist to oversee full customs compliance throughout import and export functions. This role involves managing all customs documentation, product classification, and staying updated on trade regulations to ensure smooth cross-border operations and mitigate compliance risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and maintain all import/export documents including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, licenses, and permits with full accuracy.
• Ensure records retention is complete, audit-ready, and aligns with both regulatory standards and company policies.
• Classify products accurately under applicable tariff systems such as HS/HTS codes and determine the correct country of origin following trade rules.
• Manage and update the product classification database while collaborating with Engineering and Procurement to verify technical details.
• Confirm correct valuation methods, apply Incoterms properly, and oversee duty and tax application including duty drawback and preferential trade programs.
• Monitor evolving trade regulations, sanctions, embargoes, licensing elements, and free trade agreements; translate these changes into practical internal policies.
• Support the creation and maintenance of compliance policies, standard operating procedures, and internal controls to enhance operational effectiveness.
• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies to handle compliance inquiries and clearances.
• Collaborate with departments including Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Legal, and Commercial to ensure on-time, compliant shipments.
• Execute periodic audits, investigate compliance issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Assist in internal and external audits and respond to any regulatory requests.
• Develop and deliver training programs about customs regulations and promote improvements and digitization within customs processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven expertise in HS/HTS code classification, origin determination, and customs documentation preparation.
• Working knowledge of major trade frameworks including EU customs laws, UK and Ireland regulations, and sanctions/export controls.
• Experienced with ERP, TMS systems, and customs broker technology portals; advanced Excel and analytical capabilities.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in customs, trade compliance, or international logistics environments, preferably within manufacturing or brokerage/forwarding sectors.
• Ability to interpret and apply changing regulations effectively.
• Accuracy in data management and documentation processes.
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally and manage vendor and broker relationships.
• A commitment to continuous process improvement and compliance integrity.
