Role Overview
Based in Darwin, this position involves planning, supervising, coordinating, and delivering structural works for a significant high-rise student housing development project.
Candidate Profile
- Trade qualifications in Carpentry, Concreting, Civil Construction, Construction, or related fields are required.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Foreman, Structural Foreman, Site Supervisor, or comparable role within commercial construction projects.
- Proven expertise in managing structural components of multi-storey commercial or high-rise developments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of structural construction methods including formwork, reinforcement, concrete placement, post-tensioning, and structural steelwork.
- Experience managing subcontractors, labor teams, and optimizing site productivity.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, engineering specifications, and construction schedules accurately.
- A solid understanding of construction safety regulations, quality assurance systems, and health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach to site management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and construction management software is highly advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Oversee planning, coordination, and supervision of structural tasks including concrete work, formwork assembly, rebar placement, post-tensioning, and structural steel as applicable.
- Manage construction timeline by driving floor cycles, key milestones, and critical path to meet structural program targets.
- Collaborate closely with Site Manager and Project Engineers to develop short-term and forward-looking project schedules.
- Track progress against plans and proactively resolve delays, risks, or productivity issues.
- Schedule and sequence structural work to enable seamless handover to following trades and phases.
- Lead subcontractor coordination ensuring compliance with program, quality, and safety standards.
- Organize labor, equipment, materials, tower crane usage, concrete pours, and logistics to maintain efficient workflow.
- Conduct inspections prior to pours, handle quality checkpoints, and maintain necessary inspection and test plan documentation.
- Check work quality and adherence to project drawings, engineering requirements, and tolerances.
- Resolve defects and non-conformances promptly and ensure their effective closure.
- Champion a strong safety culture across all structural operations.
- Ensure compliance with HSEQ policies, Safe Work Method Statements, permits, and project-specific safety protocols.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and lead toolbox meetings.
- Build solid relationships with project teams, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and support to Leading Hands and site staff, promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
