Role Overview

As a software engineer at Notion, you will contribute to core user experiences, enhancing how users find value. You will tackle significant challenges with growing responsibility, developing code that impacts millions. Your role involves project ownership, making crucial technical decisions, and influencing the company’s product vision. Collaborating closely with experts from design, product, and data, you will actively shape the future of work leveraging AI.

This position is tailored towards new graduates interested in AI engineering and could be aligned to various AI-centric teams, focusing on:

• AI product engineering: delivering end-to-end model-powered features including user experience, APIs, retrieval, orchestration, and ensuring quality and reliability.
• Model and systems engineering: enhancing model integration, performance, latency, cost-efficiency, safety, and building supporting infrastructure for models and experiments.
• Evaluation and quality: developing evaluation frameworks and automated or human-in-the-loop testing to improve model and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with your team to prototype and launch AI-enhanced product features.
• Take charge of scoped productionization initiatives that may involve integrating new models or techniques, implementing monitoring and safeguards, or optimizing latency, cost, and reliability.
• Contribute to evaluation and iterative processes by creating or refining datasets, running experiments, analyzing outcomes, and transforming insights into product or system improvements.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with ability to begin full-time employment before July 27, 2026.
• Prior internship experience in relevant technical roles.
• Proficiency or working knowledge of programming languages such as TypeScript, React, Python, among others.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to build and prototype quickly, demonstrated through academic projects, internships, or hackathons involving AI or machine learning.
• Familiarity with product components like user interfaces, APIs, data management, and relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a methodical approach that breaks down complex issues and values iterative development and feedback.
• Excellent communication skills for clear written and verbal interactions, along with a collaborative mindset comfortable with transparent learning and teamwork across engineering, product, design, and data domains.
• User-centered approach focusing on delivering impactful solutions that matter to large user bases.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres.
• A passion for creating software solutions with enjoyment derived from building technical tools for oneself or others.
• Interest in the societal impact of technology and a conscientious perspective on the technologist’s responsibilities.
• Awareness of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay, reflecting admiration for foundational work in computing.

Compensation

Notion offers competitive cash compensation, equity options, and benefits. For San Francisco and New York locations, the approximate base salary is between $126,000 and $146,000, varying based on candidate experience, location, and role complexity.
