Senior Manager, Communications & Media Relations

This opportunity is with a partner company seeking a Senior Manager for Communications & Media Relations, based in the United States, offering a fully remote position. It is ideal for a skilled communications expert eager to lead strategic, impactful media efforts within a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead prompt response communications by continuously tracking news developments, preparing timely messaging, coordinating with media, and activating spokespersons during significant events.
• Establish and nurture relationships with journalists to secure earned media coverage across national, regional, and sector publications.
• Create, edit, and oversee the distribution of various external communications including press releases, advisories, opinion pieces, talking points, and official statements.
• Partner with legal, advocacy, and leadership teams to simplify complex matters into engaging and precise messages tailored for diverse audiences.
• Design, improve, and implement media strategies, evaluate media impact, track trends, and provide insights to enhance communication efforts.
• Prepare executives and representatives for media interviews and public presentations through coaching and messaging support.
• Manage and mentor the communications team, prioritizing tasks, optimizing workflow, and promoting a collaborative, high-achieving culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• 7 to 10 years of experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, or rapid-response communication roles, preferably in legal, advocacy, nonprofit, or public policy sectors.
• Minimum of 3 years managing or mentoring communications personnel.
• Proven track record in securing earned media placements and managing multiple communications campaigns under stringent deadlines.
• Excellence in writing, editing, storytelling, and producing publication-quality content.
• Comprehensive knowledge of media strategy, crisis communication, spokesperson training, and media relations.
• Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics platforms such as Meltwater, Cision, or Muck Rack, and collaboration tools like Salesforce, Asana, Slack, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
• Exceptional communication, organizational, leadership, and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated capability to handle competing priorities in fast-moving settings.
• Capacity to work within Pacific Time core hours and willingness to travel occasionally for meetings or events.

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive salary range from $105,600 to $158,400 annually, commensurate with experience.
