The Role

As a Senior Economist, you will engage with all facets of the consulting practice, delivering in-depth economic analyses, leading projects, and offering advisory services directly to clients. You'll collaborate with a team of expert economists addressing cutting-edge topics such as economic impact assessments, housing policy, immigration and skills policies, the future of work, and regional economic trends.

Experienced professionals will independently manage projects, enhancing the team's capacity to provide insightful economic guidance across New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee consulting projects from initial scoping through to final delivery.
• Perform thorough economic research and analysis across a wide variety of client assignments.
• Prepare clear, reader-friendly reports and commentaries tailored for non-technical audiences.
• Establish and nurture strong relationships with regional and subscription clients.
• Deliver presentations, workshops, and advice to clients nationwide.
• Where suitable, manage client relationships and contribute to ongoing subscription services.
• Contribute to economic commentary, including responses to new data releases and forecasting efforts.
• Work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues, depending on project needs.

Required Skills and Experience

• Degree in Economics; a postgraduate qualification is preferred.
• Minimum of four years' experience in an economics-related position.
• Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand's economic landscape and challenges.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying economic concepts for general audiences.
• Confidence in presenting research findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational abilities with effective time management under deadline pressures.
• Proficiency in advanced Excel; programming experience in R is advantageous.
• Self-motivated and comfortable operating in a flat organizational structure with high trust and responsibility.
