About the Role
A partner company based in Ireland is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting & Controlling to lead and overhaul their global accounting division within a dynamic, technology-focused organization. This senior leadership role demands oversight of the comprehensive accounting ecosystem, spanning financial reporting, internal controls, policies, and operational excellence across various geographies. The successful candidate will be a strategic finance team member, influencing critical decisions and collaborating closely with business units. This role uniquely combines deep technical accounting knowledge with a commitment to automation, scalability, and process enhancement, leveraging AI-driven tools to build a forward-thinking finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct global accounting operations, managing end-to-end processes such as month-end closings, financial reports, compliance, and policy enforcement.
- Guarantee precise and prompt reporting per relevant accounting standards while maintaining readiness for audits and operational discipline.
- Develop and expand a global accounting model encompassing personnel, procedures, technology systems, and international entities including payroll and treasury management.
- Offer expert technical accounting advice on complex topics like revenue recognition, commissions, equity, payroll, intercompany dealings, foreign exchange, and policy interpretation.
- Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to devise practical accounting frameworks that support business expansion with appropriate risk controls.
- Recruit, guide, and nurture a high-caliber distributed accounting team to foster accountability, ownership, and career development opportunities.
- Lead finance transformation projects focused on automation, utilizing AI solutions to enhance workflows, efficiency, and scalability.
- Reinforce the control environment with dedication to SOX compliance and support for major initiatives including fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, and IPO preparations.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax consultants, payroll vendors, and other strategic partners.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 6 years managing Accounting, Controlling, or Finance operations with experience in complex, multi-entity international environments.
- Extensive technical accounting expertise, including revenue transactions, commissions, equity, payroll, intercompany structures, and financial policy application.
- Background in high-growth technology companies, especially software or SaaS sectors with recurring revenue models.
- Proven leadership ability, balancing strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise and judgement.
- Track record of building and leading effective teams in distributed or remote-first settings.
- Preferred professional certification such as CPA, ACA, or ACCA.
- Experience with IFRS reporting and familiarity with audits, fundraising, M&A deals, or IPO processes is advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of global payroll, treasury operations, and multi-jurisdictional financial procedures.
- Strong interest and experience in automation, AI technologies, and optimizing finance workflows.
- Familiarity with ERP systems like NetSuite and a systems-oriented, adaptable mindset.
- Proactive, solution-focused approach with ability to handle ambiguity and serve as a trusted strategic partner.
- Comfortable operating within a global environment, with work hours starting early to align with different time zones and utilizing asynchronous communication effectively.
