Senior Design Engineer - Data Center Construction

Overview

Our client in Doha, Qatar, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to spearhead the multidisciplinary design efforts for a large-scale data center construction project. This pivotal position oversees the entire design lifecycle, ensuring all engineering solutions meet technical standards and are successfully coordinated from initial design through to construction and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead coordination and technical delivery across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, ICT/ELV, BIM, and specialized design disciplines throughout the project's lifecycle.
• Thoroughly review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, technical submissions, and shop drawings to guarantee accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Resolve design conflicts, address technical queries, manage RFIs, and handle coordination challenges effectively during the project execution.
• Collaborate closely with contractors, consultants, clients, and internal teams to facilitate integrated delivery of the project.
• Support value engineering initiatives, conduct constructability assessments, and optimize design solutions for practical implementation.
• Track design progress against project timelines to ensure timely submission and completion of design packages.
• Participate in technical workshops, coordination meetings, and design reviews engaging all relevant project stakeholders.
• Ensure all design outputs adhere to project specifications, client standards, local regulations, and international codes.
• Provide technical assistance during construction phases, equipment commissioning, and project closeout processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 to 10 years of professional experience in design engineering, specifically with significant involvement in data center construction projects.
• Proven track record of managing multidisciplinary engineering teams on mission-critical infrastructure developments.
• Strong grasp of construction techniques, design coordination methodologies, and complete project delivery workflows.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM processes, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience reviewing and validating technical documents, engineering calculations, material submittals, and construction blueprints.
• Outstanding communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Essential experience with hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical data center projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience delivering hyperscale or mission-critical facilities through design to construction phases.
• Familiarity with international building regulations and data center design guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with decisive technical judgment.
• Capability to handle multiple priorities in dynamic and fast-paced project settings.
• Experience supporting construction, system commissioning, and project handover activities.
