Job description
Role Overview
The Sales Manager is responsible for meeting the hotel’s revenue objectives by optimizing income from an assigned portfolio of accounts while also seeking out new client opportunities in designated markets. Market assignments may adapt to the hotel’s strategic needs, with performance evaluation based primarily on meeting revenue targets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage key accounts within a defined client base or geographic region to maximize revenue, surpass individual targets, and grow market share against competitors.
- Identify and pursue new business accounts actively.
- Cover all market segments within assigned regions, which could include European clientele.
- Conduct hotel site inspections for clients.
- Ensure strict compliance with corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Track and follow up on tentative bookings within the assigned territories.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of competitors’ offerings and strategies.
- Stay knowledgeable about all hotel services and relevant operational data.
- Timely secure contracts from clients under management.
- Perform strategic contracting to optimize revenues during annual rate negotiations.
- Participate in trade fairs, sales blitzes, and industry workshops relevant to assigned markets.
- Support Directors of Sales in defining and implementing the annual sales strategy.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget by providing accurate account statistics and forecasts.
- Execute sales initiatives within established cost parameters.
- Record all sales activities in Sales Force Automation (SFA) systems (Sales & Catering module).
- Keep the OPERA contact database current at all times.
- Promote cross-selling opportunities among other Kempinski hotels.
- Understand and align with the company’s sales vision fully.
- Participate in Duty Manager rotations as required.
- Comply thoroughly with employee handbook rules, as well as fire, hygiene, health, and safety policies.
- Promptly report and ensure remediation of any potential or actual hazards.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in a comparable sales role, ideally within a 4 or 5-star hotel environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team atmosphere.
- Strong grasp of sales and marketing concepts and prevailing best practices.
- Proficient with customer relationship management (CRM) tools and sales software, specifically Micros Fidelio Opera and Sales & Catering systems.
- Advanced computer competency including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Effective negotiation and sales closing skills.
