Position Overview
Join ABC Capricornia as a Reporter based in Rockhampton and Gladstone, Queensland. This full-time, fixed-term contract role (~14 months) involves creating compelling news stories across broadcast, digital, and social media platforms. You'll cover breaking news, emergency events, and local community stories, contributing to quality journalism that resonates both locally and nationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce engaging news and current affairs content for multiple platforms including live reports, interviews, and packaged stories.
- Cover breaking news and assist with emergency coverage as needed.
- Develop and pitch original story ideas to increase audience engagement.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships within the community to uncover diverse stories.
- Collaborate with ABC teams to share and develop content for local and national audiences.
Candidate Profile
- Experienced journalist with a passion for regional and local news.
- Excellent editorial judgment, storytelling abilities, and interest in local issues.
- Proven skill in creating news content for both broadcast and digital formats.
- Strong research, sourcing, and analytical capabilities with sound news judgment.
- Ability to build and sustain community contacts reflecting Australia's diverse populations.
- Valid driver's license is required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $84,000 to $103,000 plus 15.4% nominated superannuation.
