Role Overview
The QAQC Engineer will lead the development and upkeep of quality assurance and control protocols for carpentry, joinery, and fit-out manufacturing operations. This role ensures that products, materials, and workmanship meet approved designs, specifications, client demands, and industry standards while aligning with company policies.
Key Duties
- Develop and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) consistent with ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent company standards.
- Create and update quality-related documentation such as Quality Plans, Method Statements, and Inspection and Test Plans tailored for joinery and fit-out projects.
- Oversee quality procedures at every manufacturing phase, including material sourcing, fabrication, finishing, packaging, and delivery.
- Coordinate both internal audits and facilitate external audits by clients, consultants, and certification authorities.
- Analyze project documents like specifications, drawings, and BOQs to identify quality requirements and assess risks.
- Set quality targets and track performance via KPIs and detailed quality reports.
- Foster a culture of quality awareness within production and project teams.
- Conduct inspections of incoming materials including timber, boards, veneers, laminates, hardware, finishes, adhesives, and accessories to verify compliance.
- Carry out in-process inspections during operations such as cutting, machining, assembly, veneering, laminating, finishing, polishing, and pre-installation mock-ups.
- Ensure final products strictly adhere to shop drawings, samples, tolerances, and finish criteria.
- Monitor workmanship quality for both factory-fabricated and site-installed joinery and fit-out components.
- Utilize and confirm calibration of measuring and inspection instruments.
- Identify and document non-conformities by issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and manage follow-up corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) verifying their success.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Production Managers, Factory Supervisors, and Site Engineers on quality-related matters.
- Coordinate inspections with stakeholders including consultants, clients, and third-party inspectors.
- Support factory acceptance tests and site inspections prior to delivery and installation.
- Ensure quality is maintained during site installation, rectification, and snag clearance activities.
- Assist in preparing handover documents, warranties, and quality records as needed.
- Keep precise records of inspections, test outcomes, approvals, NCRs, and corrective measures.
- Manage Inspection Requests and ensure timely approvals.
- Compile comprehensive quality reports, dashboards, and monthly summaries for management.
- Control quality documentation ensuring that current approved versions are used throughout.
- Maintain traceability documentation for materials and workmanship.
- Ensure adherence to standards such as ISO 9001, ASTM, BS, EN, and applicable local regulations.
- Verify that products satisfy fire rating, environmental, sustainability, and safety requirements.
- Oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance related to materials and finishes, including VOC and fire-retardant measures.
- Analyze repetitive quality issues to identify root causes and suggest improvements to processes, materials, and inspection techniques.
- Support training programs to elevate production and site team expertise in quality standards and workmanship best practices.
- Participate in post-project lessons-learned sessions to drive continuous quality enhancement.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Wood Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- At least 7 to 10 years of QAQC experience within carpentry, joinery, or fit-out manufacturing environments.
- Proven background in factory and site quality control for custom joinery and interior fit-out projects.
Skills and Competencies
- Deep understanding of carpentry and joinery materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret detailed shop drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities.
- Knowledge and practical experience with ISO 9001 standards and quality auditing.
- Strong attention to detail coupled with analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent report writing and documentation capabilities.
- Effective communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with quality management software tools.
Working Environment and Conditions
- Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with frequent site visits to project locations.
- Willingness to work overtime or extended hours during critical project phases.
- Exposure to a factory setting involving woodworking machinery and construction environments.
