Department Context and Eligibility
This opportunity is with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), advancing Colorado's health and protecting its living environments. Applicants must be residents of Colorado to apply and only individuals eligible for reinstatement will be considered, as this is a term-limited position funded through November 30, 2027.
Position Overview
This role provides expert project management leadership for complex initiatives in the Epidemiology and Laboratory Sections. It requires combining advanced project management techniques with deep knowledge of epidemiology, disease surveillance, electronic disease reporting, laboratory operations, and public health program needs. The position advises division leadership on strategy, implementation, risks, and readiness, and leads cross-functional projects from conception through evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead specialized project management efforts for complex public health projects involving epidemiology and laboratory programs.
- Manage cross-departmental initiatives, translating technical public health requirements into actionable project plans.
- Facilitate collaboration among various internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects align with division priorities and are feasible.
- Develop governance, implementation plans, communications, and performance metrics to support project success.
- Advise leaders on prioritization, resources, risk management, and change management strategies.
- Establish and promote project management standards and best practices across initiatives.
- Serve as a communication bridge between technical teams and leadership, providing actionable recommendations and strategies.
- Provide consultation on stakeholder engagement, organizational readiness, and change impact analysis.
- Develop and disseminate reports, briefings, and communications to support informed decision-making.
- Mentor project teams and program staff on methodologies, planning, and continuous improvement.
Applicants Must Meet
- Residency within the State of Colorado at application time.
- Seven years of related experience leading process strategies, technology solutions, performance strategies, project management and mission-focused implementation, OR a combination of relevant education plus experience totaling seven years.
Preferred Expertise
- Designing workflows, process strategies, and monitoring technology solution implementations.
- Data analysis to identify process performance improvements and report generation.
- High-volume media inquiry management under tight deadlines.
- Experience working with diverse populations and the general public.
- Use of digital engagement platforms, analytics, and communications tools.
- Collaborating with executives and stakeholders.
- Contingency planning and prioritizing multiple competing demands.
