Overview
Wood is inviting expressions of interest for the role of Project Director (Offshore) based in Qatar. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering excellence across designated projects or programs by effectively controlling scope, schedules, budgets, and risks to provide assurance and confidence to clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold Profit & Loss accountability including managing revenue, margin, overheads, budgeting and forecasting, risk/opportunity evaluations, cost monitoring, accounts payable, billing, and cash flow.
- Participate in formulating and reviewing project proposals and plans to define timelines, methodologies, resource needs, and allocation, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and best practices.
- Manage scope changes through negotiation with clients, applying formal Change Management protocols to control adjustments affecting scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
- Drive innovation initiatives such as digital transformation, advanced technology adoption, work share schemes, and leveraging engineering centers of excellence to enhance value for Wood and its clients.
- Authorize project execution documentation including scope, deliverables, master schedules, budgets, organizational charts, and risk registers.
- Ensure project team members possess the required competencies to perform assigned tasks.
- Oversee proposal submissions and contract call-offs within delegated authority, conforming to contracting policies and ethical standards.
- Monitor project adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards, proactively addressing potential delays or issues.
- Implement project management software and ensure relevant training is delivered.
- Establish project assurance protocols and schedules to maintain oversight.
- Engage in contract terms determination and project scope definition, especially for complex or large-scale initiatives that require public engagement and talent attraction.
- Provide leadership in health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) matters including program development, audits, and proactive issue mitigation.
- Promote and enforce company-wide best practices and initiatives across projects and programs.
- Resolve complex escalated challenges arising within project teams.
- Participate in project assurance activities and peer evaluations.
- Manage highly complex, sensitive projects requiring negotiation with local authorities, community interaction, and recruitment of specialized personnel—leveraging established credibility and experience.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
- Preferred certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP), Associate in Project Management (APM), or equivalent.
- Extensive experience exceeding 20 years in relevant fields, with at least 10 years in project management roles involving complex, international, or remote-location projects.
- Strong technical expertise aligned with project scope.
- Proven familiarity with industry, regional, and operational contexts pertaining to the work.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project success criteria and benefits realization approaches.
- Advanced skills in stakeholder management, capable of coaching others and managing challenging relationships.
- Expertise in requirements management including creation, tracking, verification, and alignment with business benefits.
- Experience with workflow management, engineering ownership policies, global project execution, and tendering processes.
- Competence in developing and managing multi-phase budgets, including risk contingencies.
- Expert practitioner in risk management, translating risk factors into cost, schedule, and contingency forecasts.
- Deep understanding of vendor contracts, contract creation, negotiation, and conclusion across diverse goods and services.
- Capability to manage major project startups and prepare comprehensive execution plans.
- Insight into explicit and implicit dependencies within projects, effectively communicating these for decision-making.
- Proven record of implementing project performance improvement and recovery strategies.
- Knowledge of supplier categorization and creating strategic commercial acquisition plans.
- Understanding of information management needs across project phases, internal compliance, and asset documentation.
- Skill in negotiating project close-out terms with stakeholders.
- Effective resource management including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Strong commercial and technical risk management practices.
- Ability to manage cash flow and develop cost forecast at project completion.
