Role summary

This entry-level process engineering position centers on the design of manufacturing facilities, equipment, supporting infrastructure, and critical utility systems. The role involves engineering calculations such as heat transfer and pressure drop, as well as helping document the process design scope alongside other disciplines. The position may also include supporting field installation efforts and carrying out construction site observations.

What you will do

  • Help prepare and document process design scope in coordination with other disciplines.
  • Work with architects, engineers, designers, and both internal and external stakeholders to keep designs coordinated, buildable, and complete.
  • Review your own work carefully while staying in regular communication with peers and a supervisor.
  • Contribute to one or more projects at the same time and manage time efficiently.
  • Address more complex issues with guidance from a mentor or supervisor.
  • Support work across multiple design phases, including studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
  • Carry out assigned tasks at a basic complexity level under the direction of experienced process engineers.
  • Prepare or assist with engineering deliverables such as block and process flow diagrams, user requirements specifications, equipment lists, general arrangement drawings, equipment datasheets, utility summaries, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Between 0 and 3 years of relevant engineering experience gained through internships, co-ops, research, or professional roles.
  • Working knowledge of engineering concepts, calculation methods, and problem-solving approaches.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred: Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Preferred: Exposure to process design work such as material and energy balances, process modeling, and equipment sizing.
  • Preferred: Understanding of fluid mechanics, hydraulic modeling, and heat transfer.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with chemistry and/or biochemistry concepts.
  • Preferred: Experience performing engineering calculations under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with engineering software used for process modeling, design, and calculation tasks.
