Job description
Job Location and Contract
This role is based at the Newport Pagnell Delivery Office, MK16 9BF, under a fixed term contract lasting 12 months.
Compensation and Hours
You will earn £13.68 per hour, paid monthly, with opportunities for paid overtime. The workweek consists of 37 hours, spread across 5 days out of 7 from Monday to Sunday, typically between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The shift schedule rotates and includes weekend work, including Sundays within the Milton Keynes area.
Role Overview
As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie), you will operate as a vital community link, delivering letters, parcels, and various important items like exam results and business orders within your local area. Your duties will involve sorting mail at the delivery office, delivering via a Royal Mail van and on foot, and engaging with customers to build relationships. The job requires working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work Nature and Physical Demands
- Walking long distances up to 12 miles or more (over 20,000 steps daily)
- Driving a Royal Mail van each day
- Delivering large volumes of mail and parcels
- Managing busy, often time-sensitive days, especially in peak periods
- Working outdoors regardless of weather conditions
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold a valid UK manual driving license with up to 6 penalty points, registered under your current name and address
- Willingness and ability to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
- Physical fitness to walk long distances, climb stairs or hills, and carry mailbags weighing 10kg or more
- Reliable, self-motivated, and well-organized with resilience in a busy environment
- Customer-focused attitude with pride in providing excellent service
- Comfortable working independently outdoors
