About the role

This position works an 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule, and some weekend shifts are included. The role is based in Rural Retreat, Virginia.

What you’ll do

• Receive soiled linen and sort it into the correct categories.
• Operate the automatic cart washer when needed and remove carts from the washer exit area.
• Run the flatwork ironer and small-piece folding equipment, and process specialty items according to set standards.
• Check linen quality and make sure finished items meet customer expectations; escalate concerns to the lead or supervisor.
• Label and tag linen distribution carts correctly and cover them before transport.
• Fold and store linen in a way that maintains cleanliness standards.
• Help the truck driver load linen and other materials onto the truck.
• Share updates with the lead or supervisor on supply levels and par quantities.
• Keep the work area clean, orderly, and well maintained.
• Provide courteous, efficient, and flexible service to customers, clients, and coworkers.
• Maintain assigned ancillary areas, department spaces, and corridors in a clean, sanitary condition in line with safety and preventive maintenance guidelines.
• Choose appropriate cleaning methods based on training and on-the-job judgment.
• Use housekeeping tools, equipment, and cleaning solutions safely and effectively.
• Disinfect or sterilize equipment and supplies when required.
• Follow universal precautions when handling trash and biohazardous waste.
• Keep carts stocked with supplies, ensure chemicals are properly labeled, and confirm equipment remains in good working order.
• Support professional working relationships and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
• Help improve productivity and the overall efficiency of the department.
• Continue building skills through required training and development commitments.
• Accept that job duties may change or additional duties may be assigned without advance notice.

Qualifications and expectations

Previous cleaning experience is preferred. The ideal candidate pays close attention to detail, communicates well with clients, senior leadership, and support staff, and adapts quickly when priorities change.

This role can involve physical activity such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking or standing. Uniforms and personal protective equipment may be required.
