Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Caretaker at Vibank Regional School, serving approximately 260 students from kindergarten to grade 12. Situated 60 km southeast of Regina in Vibank, this permanent, full-time role involves preserving a safe, clean, and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. Reporting to the school administrator and Caretaking Manager, the caretaker plays a key role within both the local school and the broader Facilities teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diligently perform daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping tasks according to standards outlined in the Caretaker Manual and directives from the Facilities department or school administration.
  • Independently conduct inspections of HVAC systems, Life Safety Systems including fire panel visual checks, facilities, grounds, and equipment, maintaining precise documentation.
  • Collaborate with school staff and administrators to support school and community events.
  • Ensure sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies and paper products is maintained.
  • Fulfill daily security duties, including alarm responses.
  • Execute minor maintenance and repairs autonomously or in coordination with Facility Maintenance Technicians; promptly report building concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Work to optimize building operational systems for energy and water efficiency.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned by administration or the Caretaking Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent level of education.
  • Interest in acquiring or possession of WHMIS certification and Fireman's Certificate.
  • At least three years' experience in caretaking roles.
  • Understanding of safe boiler and HVAC system operation and monitoring.
  • Competence in operating floor cleaning equipment (including stripping and waxing) and outdoor machinery such as snow blowers and lawnmowers.
  • Ability to perform fundamental building repairs and maintenance.
  • Capacity to handle confidential materials appropriately and respect staff/student privacy.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation range from $22.91 to $26.79 per hour.

  • Standard work schedule: 8 hours daily, Monday through Friday, throughout the year.
