Role overview
Calvary Health Care is seeking a permanent full-time Payroll Governance Officer to help strengthen payroll controls, improve compliance, and support more efficient delivery across the organisation. The role is based in Australia with locations listed in Newcastle, Sydney, and Melbourne, and flexible or hybrid working arrangements are available.
What you will do
You will contribute to the creation, rollout, and ongoing refinement of payroll governance arrangements so payroll remains accurate, compliant, and operationally efficient. A key part of the role is maintaining practical procedures, checklists, and reference materials, while also reviewing current workflows to find ways to simplify, standardise, and improve them.
The position involves analysing payroll activities and control measures, questioning whether existing practices are still necessary or effective, and helping reduce risk through streamlined and fit-for-purpose processes.
Key duties
- Help build and maintain the payroll governance structure, including policies, procedures, standards, and internal controls.
- Support payroll compliance with legal, regulatory, and organisational requirements.
- Review governance documents regularly to ensure they are up to date, practical, and suitable for audit review.
- Spot control weaknesses and assist with corrective actions that improve governance.
About you
The ideal candidate brings hands-on payroll, governance, or compliance experience, along with a strong grasp of end-to-end payroll processing, control environments, and relevant industrial and legislative obligations.
You should be comfortable examining workflows in detail, identifying inefficiencies or risks, and contributing to improvements that make payroll operations simpler, more standardised, and more effective.
This role suits someone who has helped introduce automation or other efficiency improvements, and who is willing to challenge existing methods in order to remove low-value work and improve outcomes.
You also need the ability to write and maintain clear, accurate, easy-to-use procedures, checklists, and guidance documents that reflect how the work is actually done.
Experience with Chris21 and UKG is desirable, along with prior use of Microsoft SharePoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
Work environment and offer
Calvary offers a supportive team setting with salary packaging, benefits, and development opportunities. The organisation highlights its inclusive culture, long history of service, and focus on caring for patients, residents, and clients.
Additional information
The closing date for applications is 30 July 2026. Before starting, you may need to complete pre-employment checks, which can include reference checks, work rights verification, criminal history screening, NDIS/WWCC/WWVP checks, and a health assessment. You will also need to provide immunisation evidence if required for the role.
